Hi Everyone!
I wasn’t feeling the best this last week so progress wasn’t as far as I was hoping for. I had thought that having a project “published” to a store front would feel better than it did. I haven’t received many views here on itch and with only 6 downloads, I was a bit disheartened. I tried posting to twitter but that hasn’t had much of an impact or driven any views to itch either. Marketing is hard and I’m learning that the hard way. I think its best if I just focus on learning and have fun making Little Pirates. Eventually people will find it right?
Pity party aside, I did make some strides this weekend on the Fjord assault game mode, and I think this mode is pretty fun!
Fjord Assault Objectives
The point of Fjord Assault is to fight your way to the center of town and destroy the castle. Along the way, you’ll have to destroy specific objectives so the gates leading to the city center open. First, you’ll have to blow up the three power plants that are supplying power to the outer gates.
After that, a fleet of ships will appear outside the city walls to try to stop your progress forward. You’ll have to sink them before the gates will open.
Finally, you’ll have to destroy enough of the town buildings before the city center gates will open! Oh the humanity!
There’s still a few steps to go to make take care of the final objectives and combat, but I like the way this is turning out! What do you think?
Landscape
For this map, I tried to make the world feel a bit more lived in, and build out the aesthetic of the world more than the wave assault mode. I think these waterfalls look pretty cool, but they still need a few improvements to make them really pop! Obviously screenshots don’t do them justice, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see them in game!
I’m also trying to make it feel like the whole map is occupied by the city you are attacking instead of just the city center. This little outpost was fun to make. What do you think they do up there to pass the time?
Quality of Life Improvements
Outside of these changes, I made adjustments to the sound levels and updated the how to play to better show the objectives of the wave based game. I think this will help anyone who downloads the final release.
This weeks focus
I’d like to finish building out the last few objectives of the Fjord Assault game mode this week. If I get that finalized, I’ll work on adding objectives to the screen to show players what should happen next to proceed forward. If I finish all of that, I think I’ll work on polishing up the environment to make it feel more lived in.
